I joined W’innovate in January 2016 on the one year Graduate Scheme, after meeting them at New Designers in 2015! I began my journey as an Assistant Surface Pattern & Print Designer designing on the Christmas category, designing paper goods such as wrap, gift bags and other paper goods.
W’innovate offer a rare opportunity for graduates to jump straight into working in industry, working alongside like-minded designers, managing a category and working closely with the buying team to create customer focused, exclusive designs for one of the UK’s biggest retailers. As graduates joining W’innovate we have an incredible opportunity to build on our skill sets; not only in a design aspect, but learning more about Macro trends, translating trend into product, customer insights and the end-to-end design process.
Since completing the one year Graduate contract, I was made a permanent member of the team as a Junior Surface Pattern & Print Designer. My confidence, skill set and design style has grown as well as gaining incredible experience and knowledge of the design process. I’ve managed huge projects since which involves researching, creating a Christmas trend book, designing collections alongside the buyers, and developing these products in the Far East. I have had so many great achievements, my favourite to date would be returning back to the University I graduated from and running a project with the very talented final year students!
